Biography
Born in 1965, Laurent Benaïm was first trained and experienced as a professional mainstream photographer, working mainly in fashion and architecture. Yet as far as he can remember, he has always been fascinated by sexuality. For the last 15 years, Laurent Benaïm has been working exclusively on his artistic production, which associates the universes of erotism with a 19th century photographic process called ‘bichromate gum’.
Laurent Benaïm’s work aims at representing the never-ending diversity of fantasies and desires. He seeks to depict moments of erotic ecstasy, whatever their nature: thoroughly organized scenes regulated by a system of codes, by the fine decorum of fetish practices; or abandoned to the chaos of spontaneous copulation. Laurent Benaïm captures the indefectible humanity of these moments, and their exquisit emotional power. The unique atmosphere of bichromate gum photographs adds to the softness, mystery and magics of the artist’s erotic universe.
Seeking to enhance the strength and beauty of real erotic practises, Laurent Benaïm works exclusively with ‘amateur’ models. They come to him with a desire to participate to his creation process, as an artistic testimony about their own practises.
Over the years, Laurent Benaïm has acquired a strong reputation as one of the most admired ‘erotic photographers’ in Paris and in France. His work is regularly shown in exhibitions and galleries around Europe and in the world . He has published three personal volumes.
He is based in the Parisian suburb of Montreuil, where he has set up a studio allowing him to produce photographs using the 19th century bichromate gum photographic process.

Nato nel 1965, Laurent Benaïm è stato addestrato ed istruito come fotografo principale professionista, lavorando principalmente nella moda e nell'architettura. Eppure per quanto ricorda, è sempre stato affascinato dalla sessualità. Negli ultimi 15 anni, Laurent Benaïm lavora esclusivamente sulla sua produzione artistica, che associa gli universi dell'erotismo con un processo fotografico del XIX secolo chiamato "gomma bicromatica".
Il lavoro di Laurent Benaïm mira a rappresentare la diversità infinita di fantasie e desideri. Cercando di descrivere momenti di estasi erotica, qualunque sia la loro natura: scene organizzate in modo corretto, regolate da un sistema di codici, per il bel decalogo delle pratiche fetish; o abbandonati al caos della copulazione spontanea. Laurent Benaïm cattura l'umanità indefettibile di questi momenti, e il loro potere emozionale squisito. L'atmosfera unica delle foto in gomma bicromatica aggiunge alla morbidezza, il mistero e le magie dell'universo erotico dell'artista.
